Kagan is a prominent painter but he took his first steps into sculpture by partnering with Factum Arte to produce a life size bronze astronaut stylised with his signature block stroke aesthetic.

Matt prepared the 3D files and printed sections using a large format mSLA resin printer. The team at the foundry then made molds and waxes from the 3D prints and cast in bronze. The sections were assembled, welded together and finished with a patina.

The sculpture was donated by Kagan to amfAR Cannes Gala and sold for a record breaking $470k on the night, with the money going to The Foundation for AIDS Research.
