In a collaboration with sculptor Charles Westgarth, our task was to create a unique balustrade for the entrance into his new studio space, embodying his connection with the natural world.

Initial attempts using procedural methods with digital design tools fell short in achieving the desired organic, randomly varied aesthetics. The breakthrough came with the application of Generative AI, which when guided successfully reproduced the intricate reticulate venation common in natural elements such as leaves and insect wings.

The technology enabled us to create an ambiguous yet naturally appealing form, reflecting the artist's inspirations. The design was then refined and supplemented with the artist's personal touches, vectorized, and plasma cut into a 3mm sheet steel, resulting in a unique fusion of art, design and technology.
