EAGLE
AHMED MATER - FACTUM ARTE
109 x 321 x 528 cm
5 meter wingspan Drone produced for Ahmed Mater’s Cartography of Surveillance exhibit at Frieze London 2021.
A reference 3D model of a Grey Eagle Drone was used, however it had to be converted from a model that was just for visualisation, into a model that had geometry that could be fabricated. Matt did the conversion, cleaned and remodelled many elements.
For fabrication, Matt then worked on the sections of the Drone that were to be 3D printed. This entailed of fixing geometry, remodelling parts where needed and creating the cuts and joins be be able to be assembled later. Large pieces such as the propellers and missiles were sent to be printed in large 3D printers externally. Smaller pieces such as small fins, hydraulic brakes and sensors were printed by Matt in the studio.
The workshop team, then assembled the parts and coated with a resin and sand.
