APOLLO

MICHAEL KAGAN - FACTUM ARTE

The work was exhibited floating on Biscayne Bay in Miami during Miami Art Basel 2021

Based on scan data released by the Smithsonian and Nasa, the Apollo Command Module was remodelled in 3D and rematerialized by the team at Factum Arte. While others worked on the structural main body of the capsule Matt focused on all the small details such as the top cone which contains the evacuated parachutes, sensors, heat shields, handles and other hardware. The scan data was not good enough quality for materialisation as the scans use is for visualisation and infographics, so all these details had to be 3D modelled by hand using the scan data as reference.

Matt then prepared the geometry for fabrication, splitting the model up into parts to be CNC milled and parts to be 3D printed.

The pieces were assembled and finished by the workshop team.
